In line with its ongoing commitment to demonstrate sustainable governance practices, Dubai Investments, the leading investment company listed on the Dubai Financial Market, has further strengthened its partnership with TotalEnergies by installing photovoltaic (PV) rooftop systems on its Emirates Glass and Lumiglass Industries facilities  in the UAE, promoting the use of solar energy.

The implementation of solar panels on the two glass manufacturing facilities will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 1,200 tonnes annually, equivalent to planting approximately 30,000 trees.

“Keeping up with the sustainability initiatives of our Group Company Dubai Investments, the Emirates Glass and Lumiglass facilities have played an active part in the company’s clean, green and sustainable initiatives. The Emirates Glass facility has continued to install LED lightings at the factory and office premises and have successfully achieved 100% light replacement at office areas and 70% at the factory. The rooftop solar panel installation at both Emirates Glass and Lumiglass facilities is an extension of the sustainable initiatives and is aimed at reducing the reliance on grid-energy as well energy costs. These solar panels are expected to generate around 2,800 megawatt-hours (MWh) of green energy per year from these two locations”, said Mr. Rizwanulla Khan, Executive President – Emirates Glass LLC and Lumiglass Industries.

“TotalEnergies in the Middle East is actively contributing to the development of solar energy in the United Arab Emirates partially through creating long-term impactful partnerships like the one we have with Dubai Investments,” said Hamady Sy, Managing Director TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East and Africa. “These projects for Emirates Glass and Lumiglass Industries represent the dedication that Dubai Investments has to make sustainable actions and we are proud to partner with these companies to support them with this initiative.”

Constructed with approximately 3,000 PV panels, the 1.20 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop system is expected to produce over 1,900 (MWh) annually. The electricity generated by the solar roof top will cover around 19% of Emirates Glass facilities energy needs.

Earlier this year, another solar PV rooftop was finalized with TotalEnergies for Lumiglass Industries. The 0.55 MWp solar rooftop system is made up of more than 1,400 PV panels, covering a surface equivalent to approximately 11 tennis courts. The solar system is expected to produce over 800 MWh per year and will cover about 18% of the facility’s energy needs. These projects and partnerships are part of Dubai Investments commitment to adopting modern technology and innovative concepts as part of the Company’s efforts to achieve business excellence and sustainable growth.

Emirates Glass becomes an Authorized Dealer of Feather Friendly® Bird Collision Technology

Company adds the highly-effective bird-friendly products to its Emicool range, effectively supplementing emerging building standards designed to prevent bird collisions

November 08, 2021

Emirates Glass LLC, a subsidiary of Dubai Investments PJSC and one of the largest processors of flat architectural glass in the region, has signed an agreement with Feather Friendly Technologies Inc., based in Canada to be an authorized dealer of Feather Friendly® Bird Collision Technology across the UAE and the GCC region. The products, constructed of bird friendly materials, meet specified design standards and are intended to reduce bird strikes.

The partnership highlights the rising awareness and need for sustainable bird-friendly glass in architecture, providing architects a newly tested and safe glass choice for building facades providing good balance between transparency and reflectivity.

“With the modern building facades evolving at a rapid pace and with glass continuing to make up more and more of the external building envelope, it is likely that the number of birds affected by the glass collision problem, leading to fatal impacts, is on the rise and this technology is an answer to this problem. Our partnership with Feather Friendly Technologies Inc. is not only aimed at providing a solution, but is also aimed at reiterating the company’s support towards larger environmental issues through its products like climate change which derive a natural impact from the ecosystem around us”, said Rizwanulla Khan, Executive President, Emirates Glass LLC

“Unfortunately, our buildings have become a death trap for billions of birds each year,” said Paul Groleau, Vice President, Feather Friendly Technologies Inc. “This technology comprises of enhanced pattern that’s more visible to birds than it is to humans, which helps to prevent these collisions and ensures maximum transparency, while maintaining the aesthetical appeal of glass in architecture. It’s a huge leap forward for long-term conservation as well as our biodiversity and save migratory birds whose numbers are declining dramatically”.

Over the past decade there has been an upsurge of interest in protecting environment by protecting birds from fatal collisions with man-made structures, and this issue has been addressed by Feather Friendly® Bird Deterrent Technology, designed to protect birds while enhancing the building’s design. It is an easy-to-use and unobtrusive window application that is barely noticeable to humans but highly effective in allowing birds to ‘see’ the windows, allowing them to avoid deadly collisions. The technology is also endorsed by leading bird conservation organizations.
